Overview:
Arctic Range Adventure Ltd. is seeking Tour Guides to join their team in Whitehorse, YT. This is a full-time position with permanent employment. The Tour Guides will be responsible for conducting guided tours of various sites, including historical sites, museums, gallery exhibitions, and other points of interest. The role involves driving sightseeing or tour vehicles, coordinating recreation activities, providing information on local customs and currency exchange rates, resolving itinerary and other problems, and ensuring the smooth operation of tours. The job offers the opportunity to work in both urban and rural areas, and it is considered a green job as it involves duties that lead to positive environmental outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Experience: Experience in the tourism industry is an asset.
  • Asset Languages: Knowledge of Japanese and Spanish languages is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive sightseeing or tour vehicles.
  • Confirm transportation and accommodation reservations.
  • Collect administration or entrance fees.
  • Co-ordinate recreation activities.
  • Describe points of interest.
  • Resolve itinerary and other problems.
  • Ensure and monitor luggage transfers.
  • Develop and deliver commentaries.
  • Utilize microphones or other communication devices.
  • Attend to international border crossings.
  • Co-ordinate activities with local tour guides or leaders of performance groups.
  • Provide information on tipping customs, currency exchange rates, metric conversion, and other details.
  • Sell souvenirs.
  • Assist clients/guests with special needs.
  • Conduct guided tours of various sites and answer inquiries.

Credentials:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate

Experience and Specialization:

  • Type of Guide: Various types of tour guides, including escorted group travel guide, escorted individual travel guide, driver-guide, and more.
  • Tours Focus: Historical sites, sightseeing, bus tours, walking tours, and others.
  • Number of Tours Guided: Experience in guiding 10 tours and more is desirable.
  • Geographical Areas of Specialization: Canada.

Additional Information:

  • Security and Safety: Driver’s validity license check, Driving record check (abstract).
  • Transportation/Travel Information: A valid driver’s license is required, and the candidate must be willing to travel, including cross-border travel and overnight stays.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: The job may involve working in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, and handling repetitive tasks. It may be physically demanding and require attention to detail.
