One of the most prominent international scholarships in the world is the Gates Cambridge Scholarships. Scholarships are given to outstanding students from countries other than the United Kingdom to study for a full-time postgraduate degree in any field at the University of Cambridge.

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, including tuition fees, a maintenance allowance (£20,000 for 12 months at the 2023-24 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD scholars, the award is for up to 4 years), one economy single flight at the start and end of the course, inbound visa costs, and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
It also gives discretionary cash for things like academic development, family allowances, fieldwork, and so on.
Eligibility for Gates cambridge scholarships :
If you meet the following criteria, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship:
- a national of a country other than the United Kingdom.
- applying to one of the following full-time residential courses of study: PhD (full-time or part-time*), MSc or MLitt (full-time), or a one-year postgraduate degree (full-time), subject to some exceptions (see list above).
Gates Cambridge is continuing to test a scheme that permits students to apply for financing for a part-time PhD degree for enrollment in October 2024.
Applicants apply to the University’s Graduate Application Portal for admission and financing (Gates Cambridge and other funds). To be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship, you must first complete the section on applying for admission to a programme and a College place, as well as the Gates Cambridge section on funding.
There are two application deadlines for Gates Cambridge: 11 October 2023 (for US nationals residing in the United States) and either 5 December 2023 or 4 January 2024 (for all other qualified applicants).
