Responsibilities and tasks of the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Assistant include:
- Bathing, diapering, and feeding infants and toddlers
- Developing and implementing child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
- Storytelling
- Supervising staff, trainees, or volunteers
- Leading activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest
- Ordering supplies and equipment
- Supporting early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the development of children
- Assisting early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
- Engaging children in activities such as storytelling, teaching songs, and preparing crafts
- Providing opportunities for children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
- Guiding and assisting children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
- Maintaining daycare equipment and assisting in housekeeping and cooking duties
- Preparing snacks and arranging rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
- Observing children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and preparing reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors
- Submitting written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Discussing progress and problems of children at staff meetings
- Knowledge of Day Nurseries Act and licensing regulations
- Establishing guidelines for behavior
- Assessing the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discussing progress or problems with parents and other staff members
- Attending staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
